Lake Semerwater

SEMERWATER SPEAR

28TH AND 29TH OCTOBER 2016

FOR TWO DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS (October 28-30, 2016)  SEMERWATER  PLAYED HOST TO A NEW PUBLIC ARTWORK

BY DAVID MURPHY IN ASSOCIATION WITH ARTS AND HERITAGE, THE DALES COUNTRYSIDE MUSEUM AND

CASSWELL BANK ARCHITECTS.

THE UNIQUE ART INSTALLATION SYMBOLISED THE BRONZE AGE SPEAR FOUND AT THE LAKE IN THE 1930's.

SPEAR SAW A FLOATING PAVILION INSTALLED TEMPORARILY ON THE LAKE ALLOWING VISITORS TO  FULLY EXPLORE

THE ARTWORK AND TO VIEW THE LANDSCAPE FROM A UNIQUE POSITION.

IT WAS A FASCINATING WEEK WHERE THE ARTWORK CERTAINLY CAME TO LIFE AT NIGHT.  THE SPEAR TOGETHER

WITH THE WEATHER HELPED TO HIGHTLIGHT THE BEAUTY AND DRAMA OF THE LANDSCAPE.

ALTHOUGH THE SCULPTURE HAS NOW BEEN DISMANTLED THE REAL SPEAR  CAN BE SEEN AT

THE DALES COUNTRYSIDE MUSEUM IN HAWES.
